Zelenskyy hopeful 'symbolic' meeting with Trump will lead to ceasefire as US President leaves Rome
The Ukrainian president said the two leaders discussed a “full and unconditional ceasefire” and a “reliable and lasting peace”.
White House communications director Steven Cheung called the meeting "a very productive discussion".
Posting on Truth Social, Trump has criticised Vladimir Putin for the recent Russian strikes on Kyiv, saying: "Maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war."
Zelenskyy is also holding meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
